Happy New Year!

We hope you had a peaceful and restful holiday and are back to the new year with renewed focus. We have been busy at Inner Space and Kookoo, and as some of you may have noticed, Inner Space was chosen by Boston Magazine as the Best Neighborhood Yoga Studio!   It's certainly nice to get recognition for our efforts, and we have all of you to thank for supporting us. Our success is primarily due to word of mouth, and we genuinely appreciate your having spread the word about our honest efforts.

As you know, one of the benefits of taking classes at Inner Space is that you have the choice of experimenting with different styles and teachers without committing yourself. Read on for some of the things you can try in the next couple of weeks, and we'll be in touch soon with more about exciting workshops and other new classes in 2007.

New Classes
Due to popular demand, we're adding two new classes, both appropriate for beginning yoga students:
Starting January 22nd: Mondays, 12 noon - 1:15 pm, Kripalu Yoga with Josie Galyon
Starting January 24th: Wednesdays, 5:00-6:15 pm, Beginner Vinyasa with Carolyn Clark

Yogini Classes
Kids love yoga! Inner Space offers two age groups on Wednesdays with Carolyn Clark:
Ages 4-6 years - 3-3:45 pm
Ages 7-11 - 4-4:45 pm
Carolyn has a natural way of engaging children, and they really have a great time. The younger class incorporates many games along with teaching the various poses in Sanskrit, and the older class has a more focused and serious intent.  Yoga is a wonderful exercise and tool to learn at an early age, and the relaxation and breathing techniques help them cope with the various challenges experienced at school. All children can use the strengthening and stretching exercises taught in the classes, and will be at an advantage in any sport for having learned them.

Joyful Shiatsu
Joy Flood is a Shiatsu massage practitioner working at Inner Space, and she conducts private sessions in the Annex. These therapeutic, divine treatments are performed while you are fully clothed, lying peacefully on a heated futon mat on the floor as Joy performs her magic on you. To schedule a session, please call her at 617-429-4286.

Space Rental
We have many requests for using our rooms for different things, and if you have a party, celebration, art exhibit, office meeting or anything for which you might need outside space, please contact us to discuss how we might be able to help you plan your special event.

Other Classes
Check our schedule for the latest classes -- Sarah's Slow Flow Hatha is a wonderful, soothing class on Tuesday mornings... Karen teaches Iyengar four times a week, if you miss her melodic voice you can also catch snippets of her on NPR's classical music station... Sheri's smile graces us on Monday nights... Josie will be teaching Kripalu twice a week... Devorah and Diann teach gentle Kripalu on Saturdays... Sue's Nia class is waiting for you -- experience a fusion of dance, yoga and tai chi on Monday mornings when your creativity is at a peak! Caro's challenging Vinyasa classes really jumpstart your day... Capoeira if you're really experimental and need something dynamic with music and acrobatics! Shotokan Karate to empower yourself and develop real speed, strength and agility.

And of course, we have inquiries about many things, but you all may know how difficult it is to get a new class up and running -- nevertheless, please let us know if you are interested in trying something which isn't listed on our schedule and we will do our best to get it started. For example: TEEN YOGA - AFTERNOON YOGA (3:30 pm) - FAMILY YOGA - PRENATAL YOGA - RESTORATIVE YOGA - SENIOR YOGA ... We are open to ideas, as long as it promotes our values of fitness and healthy living, and that the practice respects our space and students.
Holiday Cheer
We had an Inner Space pot luck holiday party before the New Year, with beautiful classical guitar played by one of our yoga students, Alex Henry, followed by the most remarkable musician we've heard in years, Cate Giordano (one of our black belt women) who transfixed us with her raw and extraordinary range of voice, great acoustic guitar and her totally original & comical lyrics about love and yearning. We had lots of karateka, but would love to see more yoginis  too at the next party, and so we'll be sure to give you plenty of advance notice next time so you can make it!

And thanks again to Diann Siegel for teaching a wonderful and free Christmas Day class for the community - we had 25 people on this 25th day of the year, all of whom enjoyed a lovely class and also contributed much needed warm blankets & canned goods which Diann brought to the local shelters and food pantries.

Thank you again for your great energy and we wish you peace and happiness in the new year.

All the best,
ali & elie
